A
Warm Welcome to Centro
Cultural Unidos por el Peru

Burke Centre Festival is
pleased to welcome back Unidos por el Peru" (United for Peru), a
non-profit organization instituted in 1998 to assist thousands of people
afflicted by "El Niño" torrential rainfalls, causing damage
and epidemic diseases in Peru. The organization’s Board proposed to
create the Centro Cultural, (Cultural Center) to promote the folk music
of Peru in the Capital National Area. The Centro Cultural Unidos por el
Peru was created in 2002, with a mission to focus on promoting the
folklore and music from the different regions of Peru (coast, Andean and
rainforest). The Centro Cultural Perú was formed with transparences
bases and principals, thanks to the efforts of a group of people whose
objective is to promote the Peruvian folklore through our children in
this country. "The
promotion of the Peruvian Folklore through our children is the pride of
Peru."

Alex
Rhoads

returning
Festival star
|
The Festival is
thrilled to have this young
artist with genuine talent returning to the stage this year!
In addition to writing songs
that are both melodious and meaningful, Alex Rhoads shows promise
with her outstanding guitar work and vocal ability.
Beginning piano at age 7, Alex quickly acquired an intense
interest in music. However, it wasn't until the age of 14
that she picked up a guitar. She began both performing
locally and writing original songs two years later, and will
soon be releasing her first studio album.
While always striving for success in the music business,
Alex has never been one to follow the latest trend or
fashion. Her songs have great variety. Some boast a classic
rock or blues influence, while others capture the best of
today's modern sound. Her live performances are truly
enjoyable as she pairs her original music with a large array
of cover songs that please listeners of all ages. See
Alex on Sunday (Sept. 13), 12:15-1:15 PM, MAIN STAGE!

The
Colin Thompson Band
The Burke Centre Festival
is honored to feature The Colin Thompson Band, "Virginia Roots
Rock N Blues" again this year! Colin Thompson was washed in the
blood of American roots music from the time he could crawl. He far
and away won his high school battle of the bands while still a
freshman. Then, the same year at age 14, he won the Northern
Virginia and then the Mid-Atlantic States 'Guitar Centre'
Guitarmagedon blues guitar championship. The Connection newspapers
said "lick for lick he can outplay any area blues or rock
guitarst of any age." His amazing guitar instramental 'Talkin'
Back' was featured on a compilation CD of Northern Virginia
musicians. It is a standout track that has started a critical buzz
about this teen's mega talent. He has also already recorded a CD for
Jackpot Records. Stay tuned! See
them on the MAIN STAGE, Sunday at 2:45 PM!
